Joensuu, Finland – 26th of June 2014

Finnish game developer Polar Bunny Ltd is excited to announce that their cyberpunk puzzle adventure game, Parcel, will today enter Steam Greenlight™, a system that enlists the community’s help in picking games to be released on the digital distribution platform Steam developed by Valve Corporation. This also marks the first time that Parcel, in sporadic development since late 2013, is shown to a wide audience. A video and a handful of promotional images are accessible at the game’s Greenlight™ page:

Parcel is an innovative multi-character puzzle game where the player has to solve interlocking laser puzzles using the unique abilities of different characters. The game can be played alone or cooperatively with friends. The final game will feature over one hundred unique puzzles and a level editor which enables the amount of playable content to grow to unpredictable numbers. The story of the game, which follows the adventures of a 22nd century postage company, touches on subjects such as post-humanism (pun very much intended) and virtual reality, with the full intent of boggling the players’ minds with philosophical questions about the future.

“After years of dreaming and a few months of talented people tirelessly working towards a common goal, Parcel is finally shaping up to be the game it deserves to be,” said the project’s creative director Pyry Takkunen and continued: “To see one’s brainchild finally enter daylight is both enormously humbling and scary at the same time. I sincerely hope the Steam audience sees the potential that we’ve seen in Parcel ever since it existed only on graph paper!”

Drawing inspirations from classics such as The Lost Vikings, Sokoban and Super Metroid but also some more unexpected suspects like The Legend of Zelda, Brave New World and the Rubik’s Cube, Parcel aims to be a memorable ludological and narrative experience that will make players think and leave them thinking afterwards. A puzzling future awaits!

Game features:

  • Over 100 levels of a puzzling adventure divided into numerous distinct sectors
  • Single-player and co-op – play the entire adventure alone or with friends!
  • Several unique characters with their own interesting personalities and special powers to help you solve even the hardest challenges – or to complicate things further
  • A multi-layered story with plot twists and general ominousness culminating in one question: what’s in the box and why?
  • Gorgeous environments with moody, colorful visuals
  • An extensive level editor with endless creation possibilities – make your own puzzles and challenge the world!

Once the game is released, players can expect add-ons in the form of new characters, levels and editor content that expand Parcel further as both a game and a service. Community features, such as increasing player involvement by allowing users to request editor objects, are in plans. The developers firmly believe that harnessing the creative spirit of the community is essential for Parcel, as there are literally millions of different mind-boggling puzzles that can be created with the character and level object combinations.
